Meet the Counselors

Beth Shaw, LPC

Does life feel overwhelming right now? Do you feel as if you are struggling to move past disappointments or unmet expectations in your life? Do you find yourself dealing with a season of adversity or transition leaving you with feelings of anxiety or depression? You do not have to face your struggles alone….I can help!

What is my approach? I will meet you where you are with no judgment, with compassion and authenticity. Together, we will create an emotionally safe space for you to find hope again, a place for you to process and heal so you can move forward. I will use cognitive behavioral therapy to help you transform your negative thought patterns into more healthy thinking. I will use strength based counseling to bring awareness to the strengths you already have, strengths that at the current moment may not seem present anymore. If you are living with current or past trauma, I can help you reprocess the traumatic event and finally heal through the use of EMDR.

You have the ability to rise from within by harnessing your strengths, building strong coping mechanisms, changing negative thought patterns, building resilience, learning to enforce healthy boundaries and facing life’s struggles head on. As a mother of two adult children, a wife and a therapist, I have the skills to help you achieve your goals. If you think we might be a good fit, please reach out.

I believe that the power of a positive therapeutic relationship can be a game-changer for anyone looking to improve their mental health. Just like exercising your body helps to strengthen your body, exercising your brain strengthens your brain. When we’re used to thinking negatively, negativity is the easiest path for our thoughts to travel. Anxiety can oftentimes stem from unhelpful thought patterns. When you’re able to untwist your thinking and reveal the truth underneath the anxiety, you are able to gain new perspective on life and its challenges. You have the power to rewire your brain and change your outlook on life and I can help you do just that.

I also believe each individual has a unique set of strengths that need to be explored and nurtured to bring out their full potential. Many times, people are unaware of the strengths they possess, but rather are very skilled in pointing out their flaws. Strength-based therapy allows you to not only recognize your personal character strengths, but to seamlessly implement them to maximize fulfillment in life. I would love to be a part of your healing- if you think we’d be a good fit, schedule a consultation with me so that we can begin our work together.

Has life recently felt like waves that keep overwhelming you? Maybe it’s waves of anxiety or depression; maybe it’s life transitions, grief, or memories from trauma. In the pummeling we can desperately seize onto whatever we can to float, try to ignore the waves, or lash out in pain. But what if it were possible to rise from within above the waves? What if you could even learn how to surf and scuba dive in the swells, finding underlying treasures of identity among the breakers?

It’s my honor to walk with you for a season of learning how to ride the waves of life and equip you with leading therapeutic techniques combined with spiritually informed frameworks to empower you for a life of resiliency. I draw from a rich combination of frameworks that explore how we can be grounded in our core self to move in kindness towards hurt parts of our hearts, rewriting the core beliefs that drive our suffering. It’s a joy to create a unique toolkit that fits you in your current season.

If it sounds like we might be a fit—reach out! I would love to meet you and see if we can be good journey partners in this season.

My approach consists of a no judgment, free to be yourself space where you can look in the mirror with hope for change. I use an authentic, compassionate, yet solution-focused and hands-on perspective to help with issues such as anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, sexual compulsion, obsessive tendencies, traumatic experiences, relationship issues, spiritual concerns, among others.  I will use cognitive behavioral therapy to help view your life with new perspectives and openness to new experiences.
